Helpful Friendship Tips

In late March, we heard some really good teaching on friendship from our pastor, Jeff Perry. It was at the Anchors meeting, a hip new get-together for St. Louis Family Church’s new 20s & 30s group. We really enjoyed his comments, so I thought I’d share.

(It was so good that Brett kept leaning over to me as I typed notes on my iPhone, saying, “Did you get that?”)

Pastor Jeff’s tips for Friendship:
(Click here for the extended version)

  1. Assume nothing – Don’t depend on others to make you happy.
  2. Ask God for the right relationships – Not every person is supposed to be your close friend.
  3. Look at relationships for what you can do for them – not what they can do for you.
  4. Be the friend you’d like to have – Be kind. Don’t be fake.
  5. Be generous.
  6. Bridle your tongue.
  7. Be loyal and trustworthy – Faithful are the wounds of a friend.
  8. Real friendship is rooted in security.
  9. Believe in people – Look through redemption’s eye.
  10. Outdo each other in honor.
  11. Use wisdom – Stay in the light. Flee the appearance of evil.
